The point of the Civil Rights Movement was to end discrimination against African Americans.
In order to do so, there were many protests that occured.

For thirteen years, there was a series of non-violent protests such as: the Montgomery Bus
Boycott, the Greensboro Sit-in, the Selma to Montgomery March, and more.
